CLASSICAL MOUNTAINEERING

Axe – 65/75cm with straight shaft
Boots – A pair of light, stiff boots that will take a clip-on crampon (Plastic boots aren't recommended).
Crampons - Clip-on crampons with anti-balling plates.
Helmet
Rucksack – 35/50 litres; try to bring something light.
Water bottles – 1 to 2 litres; no camel packs, they freeze and leak.
Rock shoes (if you have them)
Harness
Gloves – thick and thin mittens; chemical hand warmers if you suffer from cold hands
Sun hat
Sun glasses
Sun cream
Long sleeve shirt
Water proofs
Gaiters

Extras:
Ski poles (if you already use them)
Belay plate
2 screwgates
2 long slings with karabiners
NB. Sleeping bags NOT required – the huts provide blankets

ICE CLIMBING

Technical axes

Crampons - Clip-on, technical-style monopoints are recommended.
Helmet
Rucksack – 50/60 litres.
Water bottles – 1 to 1.5 litres; no camel packs, they freeze and leak.
Rock shoes (if you have them)
Harness
Gloves – at least 2 or 3 pairs; choose something you can handle karabiners in
Water proofs
Lots of warm clothes
