THE VALLEY BLANCHE
AN ICONIC DAY IN THE MOUNTAINS
We start the day by taking the Aguille du Midi cable car to 3842m. The views pretty good up here, next we walk down an exposed snow ridge for 20 minutes. There’s normally a pair of ropes fixed as hand rails that we hold onto. We’ll also be roped together as a team. Crampons are also an option to make life more pleasant.
We now have a 10km ski down a glacier to 1700m. there’s some fine mountain scenery and a choice of a picnic or lunch in a mountain hut. The easiest route down is a bit like a red or black run if it’s skied down, however if there’s fresh snow it’s definitely off piste.
We can also take some steeper options. From the end of the glacier we can take the mountain train down to Chamonix if we have enough snow and legs we can ski or board down a track in the woods all the way to town and a well deserved drink.
